History:
Named after Stan Martin who was born in Darwin in 1922. Stan grew up on VRD receiving his education through correspondence. After his schooling finished he became a Stockman and then Head Stockman on an outstation of VRD. Enlisting in the Army during World War II, he served in Papua New Guinea where he was badly wounded. He and his brothers Jim and George, operated "Martin Brothers Transport" which was based in Alice Springs servicing the route north to Darwin, and which was the first civilian transport company started in the Northern Territory after the War. This company was eventually sold after which Stan operated "Murandji Transport" (mainly between Katherine and the VRD) by himself for a few years until finding work in Katherine with CJA Cox & Co. Trucks were a big part of Stan's life and he was known to his trucking mates as "The Taipan".
