Label points with Z value
Adding a Z value as a label to a spot elevation point feature from Oracle using Bentley Map
The X,Y and Z coordinates of any point in a DGN file can be accessed and used to generate labels. Coordinate labels can be placed in the design file as text nodes.
A common use for this feature is to label Spot Elevation points with their heights (Z value). The following example outlines the steps involved
- Select the features you require for your project from Oracle or load an existing Microstation design file.
- Turn off all levels except the one containing the spot elevation features
- Select all of the spot features using the selection tools
You should set your text attributes at this stage to ensure the labels are readable for the scale you are working in.
- Open the TEXT dialog and enter your text parameters. You may need to experiment a little to get an acceptable result.
Open the Key-in dialog from the Utilities Menu and type in the command label hidexy on.
This determines which coordinate values will be shown as labels. You can show XYand Z values if you ignore this step.
Open the XYZ toolbox
Select the Icon as shown to display the Label Element Coordinates dialog
- Enter the accuracy 1,2,3 or 4 decimal places
- Replace Z= with a space to ensure the label does not obscure the point feature symbol
- Choose the Single option to label only the features you have selected (in this case spot elevations)
Click OK to accept.
The labels should be displayed against each feature selected
NOTES
- If the labels are not displaying, your text may be too small or you haven't selected any features
- If you get a mass of values over your screen you have All elements selected - try Single in Label Element Coordinates dialogue
- The labels are text nodes and will have to be selected and deleted separateley to clear your design file. The Bentley map Erase function will not work on these.
