Saving an Oracle connection in Bentley Map

How to save Oracle connection Parameters using the Interoperability dialogue box in Bentley Map

While working in Bentley Map you may wish to save your feature selections to repeat an Oracle query in a later session

The default options on loading the Interoperability dialogue look like this

Feature selection

Expanding the user "pw_test_user@DPI_development" will display a list of folders holding features in different categories. For example the folder Topographic 2500 contains a list of all 1:2500 topographic features stored in Oracle. To select all of these features easily

  • turn off all existing selections by right clicking the user "pw_test_user@DPI_development" and chosing Select None
  • Right click on the Topographic 2500 folder and choose Select All
  • expand the folder to reveal all the features that have been selected

This method is suitable if you only require features neatly bundled in logical folders.

However you can compile your Oracle query settings and save them in an Oracle XML file (*.orax). It will then be possible to recall these settings at any time to repeat your query. To create your own selection file

  • Select all of the features you may require on a regular basis. This can include whole folders or individual features from a number of folders.
  • Right click on Current Session and select Save as. Make sure the Save as type is "Oracle XML Files (*.orax).
  • This file can then be recalled at a later date to repeat the Oracle query over any area.

  • As Bentley Map allows only one oracle connection at one time, you must remove your current connection before you load another. Right click on Current Session then select remove
  • Right click on Oracle and select Open Oracle XML. Navigate and open the session (.orax file) you require
  • You can open and close and add to the sessions as required

Notes

  • You can only have one Oracle connection open at any one time
  • The .orax file (session) only saves which features and ticked on or off based on your selection. The View will not refresh when you open the session. To refresh the map, you must Query Features from the Spatial Toolbar
  • The current session can also be saved as a DGN.
  • It does not matter when you save the .orax file. By default, the file is saved onto the server. It is reccomended that you save on your local workstation
