Viewing NTG Aerial Imagery in ArcGIS

Please note this article is only relevant to users inside the NT Government network.

• WMS stands for Web Mapping Server, an international standard for requesting maps over a network connection.
• Adding a WMS server requires ArcGIS 9.1 or above, these instructions are specific for MapInfo Professional 9.1.
• The WMS layer can also be added to MapInfo and any other WMS client.
• A WMS layer requires a network connection at all times to work, it cannot be burned onto a CD and distributed.
• An ILIS account including the “NT Visualiser” role is necessary.

1. Open ArcCatalog. Goto “GIS Servers”, then “Add WMS Server.”

2. Double-click on “Add WMS Servers”
3. in the Server URL: enter:        http://land.visualiser.nt.gov.au/wms/wms?request=getcapabilities

4. click 'Get Layers'.. Select the service you have added.(NTLIS Google Earth), then click Add. Then click OK.

5. The service then appears in the ArcCatalog directory:

6. Drag the service icon to ArcMap. If you have a small ArcMap window open, the following map will appear. If you have ArcMap maximized already, simply reduce the size of the window and refresh.

7. A shortcut is to open the attachment NT Visualiser.mxd
