Ryan Well Historical Reserve
Permanent Declaration
Place
Ryan Well Historic Reserve is of historic significance and illustrates a significant part of the development of the Northern Territory, particularly the watering systems associated with the movement of stock along the Overland Telegraph Line. Glen Maggie Homestead ruins, within the Reserve, is associated with the Nicker family and the Central Australian personality "Cloudy" Beale. It also provides evidence of the way of life of pastoral settlers during the early part of the Twentieth Century.
Ryan Well Historical Reserve contains a well, storage tank stand and the ruins of Glen Maggie Homestead and serves as an example of the use of local materials. The whole well system shows how stock were watered in those early days.
