Flynn's Farm
Permanent Declaration
Place
The former farm consists of agricultural land located beside the spring fed Rum Jungle Creek. The site contains remnants of early agricultural and pastoral industry and native monsoon rainforest that is believed to be the site of the original teamsters camp at Rum Jungle.
Flynn's farm, located near the Batchelor township, has historic significance as the site of agricultural activity from 1882 to 1972. To be an early settler of the Northern Territory, whether it was an attempted profit making venture or not, agriculture had to be attempted to survive. The water wells and windmills installed by the Flynn family are tangible reminders of one of these ventures.

It is believed that a group of several large Banyan trees on the site is the location of the Rum Jungle teamsters camp site, established in 1870. The former camp site is of historical significance to the Territory and is associated with the Territory¿s early transport industry. The Banyan trees provided a rest spot for travellers negotiating the rough north-south road and Rum Jungle Creek provided permanent water and good grazing for their stock.

The site also includes a small pocket of monsoon rainforest. This is considered a relic of the Territory's past climatic era and is of high conservation value and has great ecological importance. Apart from providing food, fibres and medicinal plants to Aborigines previously living within the region the monsoon rainforest is an important habitat for the native fauna and flora.
