Olive Pink Botanic Gardens, Alice Springs
Permanent Declaration
Place
Diverse botanic gardens, largely composed of arid zone flora and set in the hills surrounding Alice Springs.
The Olive Pink Botanic Garden is important for its natural and cultural heritage values. Originally established as the Arid Region Flora Reserve in 1956, chiefly as a result of the efforts by Miss Pink, it is Australia's oldest public garden exclusively dedicated to the conservation of arid zone flora.

The plant collection consists of a rich assemblage and contains many rare and threatened species at the Territory and National level. As such the Garden plays an important role in efforts to conserve these plants for the future.

In addition to increasing public awareness and appreciation of our arid zone flora, the Garden also highlights the contribution of Miss Pink in terms of her anthropological research and advocacy for Indigenous rights in Central Australia over a 40 year period. The Garden also includes Tharrarltneme (Annie Meyer Hill), a sacred site important to Arrernte people.

The Garden is valued by the community for its historical and social associations with Miss Pink and others, and as a place for recreation, rest and relaxation, and for its work in the conservation of arid plant species.
