Namatjira Trees, Alice Springs
Not Recommended
Place
The two Eucalyptus papuana on Larapinta Drive are significant as the trees painted by the renowned Aboriginal artist Albert Namatjira in the 1950s, in his work titled "Twin Ghost Gums". Arguably they are one of the most iconic, easily recognisable of all the Namatjira painting sites and because of this, are highly valued by the community. Easily accessible, it is possible to stand in the place where Namatjira created this painting over 40 years ago and to experience a bond with the painter and landscape, thereby acquiring a greater appreciation of his work and personal relationship with western Arrernte country.
