Drillhole samples are defined as samples derived from a drilling process where Sample Method may be described as core (diamond drilling), rock chip (Reverse circulation drilling), cuttings (Rotary air blast drilling), and Drill Type may be described as DD (diamond drilling), RC (Reverse circulation), RAB (percussion rotary air blast drilling), AC (air core), auger. 

The data is captured by the department via statutory reporting from exploration companies or NTGS projects. Drillhole geochemical data consists of major elemental oxides, trace and rare earth element abundances collected on subsurface rock samples.

Drillhole maximum assays are the highest assay result for each element/analyte obtained over the sampled length of the hole. Legacy data capture is ongoing and usually on a geological terrane basis.
