Description
Is a Northern Territory wide database that details site and construction details/information for all bores that have been drilled in the Northern Territory and are of interest to the Water Resources Group.
All bores within the Northern Territory are identified by a unique RN number (RN - Registration Number) that is used to link to other datasets containing further bore information.
Recorded information includes details about bore construction, aquifer type and water chemistry.
Bore construction - details information about driller who constructed the bore, intended use and depth, rock type, and gravel found at various depths as the bore is drilled, casings, and screens used in construction etc.
Aquifers - details information about depth standing water table, draw down depth, production yield etc.
Water chemistry - details information about water chemistry, quality etc.
RN linked datasets.
As part of the HYDSYS application - Water chemical analysis results as performed by laboratories.
As part of the NT Add-on to the HYDSYS application - bore construction and other details.
Hardcopy maps that detail the location of bores are maintained by the Spatial Data & Mapping Branch / Natural Systems Division.
Applications to construct a bore are available through Advisory & Regulatory Services Branch / Natural Resource Management Division.

Data Quality
Lineage:Data is collected initially by the person who constructs the bore via a paper form. This form is then stored on a file. Historically this has occurred over the past 50 years. Additional information may be added to the file by geologists or other staff who have an interest in the bore. Some of these files have been transferred to digital format.
Positional Accuracy:Variable - Location can be quite inaccurate as many of the records are many years old (pre 2000). Current bores (post 2000) have been located using GPS, and for these the accuracy is probably acceptable for the current use as per scale of current mapping +/-10m for well-defined points, though there is room for improvement.
Attribute Accuracy:Variable - The accuracy of the attribute information is considered fair to poor and often incomplete. There needs to be a rationalisation of codes used as well as procedures developed in order to collect data..
Logical Consistency:There is a degree of inconsistency given the inaccuracy of the point locations.
Completeness:As of December 1999 approximately 72% of the bores with hard copy information were transferred to digital format. Due to inconsistency of data collection, the attributes associated with this is much lower.
