This dataset at 1:500, 000 scale was derived from the twenty one individual properties in the  Victoria River Districtthat were mapped. At a scale of 1:500000, this dataset provides polygon information on the Groundwater, Surface water and Water development map unit  of the Water Resources of the Victoria River District, Northern Territory.  

Apart from the boundary dataset,  the rest of the available datasets for this survey will not be converted because it was created from the 18 surveyed properties, merged and generalised to produce the  Western VRD survey at 1:500,000. The Groundwater, Surface Water and Water Development datasets as they are, requires comprehensive data cleaning in Microstation due to line work errors introduced when the properties were stitched together as a DGN. The hydrology information was interpreted from standing water level measurements, flows from springs, chemical analysis of groundwater samples and surveys of outcrops of recharge beds.  
The map unit boundaries polygons were digitised by rectifying original hard copy base map use in the raster and hydrology interpretations using Bentley MicroStation Design (V7) software.  FME Workbench script was then used to convert the unit boundary polygons from MicroStation Design to ESRI Shape with only the Level Names as an attribute.  The core water attributes are then attached to this ESRI Shape, which was then use to convert to ESRI Geodatabase, MapInfo Table and Google Earth KML.
The core attributes information associated with the groundwater, surface water and water development dataset was derived from the original map's legend and annotations.  File name WestVRD_Wrs-Map_a52.dgn.  Additional attributes unique to individual surveys were also included.
