Description
Is a reconnaissance level survey (1:250,000 scale dataset) describing/mapping lancewood communities for the Northern Territory. Mapped information describes lancewood communities/vegetation units and their attributes as floristic and environmental data and provides a basis for identifying the extent and distribution of lancewood community resources for the Northern Territory. (Vegetation Unit - A reasonably homogeneous part of the land surface, distinct from surrounding terrain with constant properties in landform and vegetation)
The polygons from this vegetation survey and the attributes from the relevant publications have been translated into the NVIS vegetation attribute framework Version 5.0 (NLWRA 2000).

Data Quality
Lineage:Original linework derived stereographically/visualy using aerial photography and satellite imagery at varying scales to delineate mapping unit boundaries and site selection, then extensively ground-truthed with topographic basemap/GPS coordinated field survey and site data collection. Resultant varified linework compiled at 1:250,000 then scanned/digitised into GIS system as ArcInfo vector information then built as a polygon coverage.

Positional Accuracy:Derived from topographic basemap, NT cadastre and GPS. The summation of errors from all sources results in data with a standard deviation defined by scale used as +/-500m for well-defined points.
Attribute Accuracy:The accuracy of the attribute information is considered high and conforms to the 'Australian Soil and Land Survey Field Handbook' at time of capture. Each polygon contains a Vegetation Community mapunit and also a Vegetation Community Description.
Logical Consistency:GIS editing tools were used to rectify all overshoots and undershoots in line work. Polygon topology rules applied are; must not overlap, must not have gaps and each polygon has only one label.
