Data Quality

Lineage:the data, and categorised maps as GIF files with title, legend, scale and lat/long grids. Programs have been written to enter, update and interrogate the point data, backshore data and shoreline data for nominated portions of the coast as printed lists or as computer-generated cartograms. A simplification of the computer programs was undertaken by A. P. Howard, who revised the package and wrote it in Pascal language (the original programs were written in Fortran IV). Sixteen vertical air photographs illustrate the categories and give a visual impression of typical parts of the coast.

Positional Accuracy:The polygon data around the coastal strip are spatially correct and consistent at 1:1 million scale.

Attribute Accuracy:Attributes are assumed to be correct, and attributes in each of the coverages are: Record, Area (for polygon coverage), Perimeter, ID.

Logical Consistency:One attribute is mapped per coverage. Coverages are topologically consistent. No particular tests conducted by ERIN.

Completeness:Complete for the Australian continent.
