Description

Abstract:

This dataset, is a subset of the dataset held by Environment Australia, which has
been clipped to cover the region under the jurisdiction of the Northern Territory.
This dataset contains the biogeographic regions of Australia (with the NT) which
were jointly defined by the State, Territory and Commonwealth nature
conservation agencies. Some regions are at the scale of sub-regions or
environmental provinces.

For a coarser level grouping into 11 Provincial Regions based on Agro_ecological
regions see the dataset "Australia, Interim Provincial Regions". This dataset is
available in ArcInfo export file format, projection Geographicals, Datum and
Spheroid WGS84. An ArcView legend file containing a standard set of colours is
also available via the download facility at Environment Australia.

as images over the Internet, via the NT Node of the Australian Coastal Atlas. Contact Environment Australia for access to the digital data.

Data Quality

Lineage:The data were originally compiled from various scales of mapping supplied by the Satate and Territory nature conservation agencies onto a 1:3 million scale base map. Since March 1995 some agencies
have reviewed and enhanced these data to improve the spatial
positioning of the boundaries.

Interim provincial regions were developed for a project being undertaken by Dr Judy Caughley on sustainable agriculture. Dr
Caughley needed to use the data presented in the IBRA regort on
reservation status, bias and threatening processes in order to make comparisons between long term sustainable agricultural monitoring
sites and regional threats to biodiversity conservation.
ArcView Legend File (ibra.avl):
Download from Environment Australia, the legend file with the ArcInfo
export file. Load the ArcInfo coverage into ArcView GIS, use the
legend editor to load the legend file and press the "apply" button to
view the coverage using this standard set of colours.

Positional Accuracy:Less than two kilometers in most areas of Australia. Generally in southern States and Territories it is accurate to 1:250,000

Attribute Accuracy:This is variable and depends on the source data made available from the States and Territories.

Logical Consistency:All polygons are correctly labelled

Completeness:The data are complete and up to date.
