Data Quality

Lineage:1973-1990: hard copy in manual registers, MAGNT.
1990-1993: computerisation of register using Minark archaeological database software, MAGNT.
1994-1997: site records exported from Minark to MapInfo for plotting, MAGNT.
1997-: present intention is development of relational database, MAGNT.
2008: responsibility for data transferred to the Heritage Unit, DNRETAS.

Positional Accuracy:Variable. Information should be interpreted by an expert. Some of the most recently registered sites have easting & northing info obtained by GPS. Some grid refs taken from 1:250 000, 1:100 000 or 1:50 000 metric topographic maps. Some grid refs taken from 1:250 000 imperial maps, converted to easting & northing by Minark software. Some sites have no grid reference, but have information re the 1:100 000 topographic map.

Attribute Accuracy:Variable. Sites have been recorded by professional archaeologists and rock art recorders, but also by unqualified recorders. Sites are continually being documented as a result of research or impact assessment.

Logical Consistency:Good

Completeness:2008: This dataset is now the responsibility of the Heritage Branch, Department of Lands, Planning and the Environment (DLPE) who update and maintain the most current version.
