The data is captured by the NTGS via compulsory reporting from exploration companies or from sampling done by NTGS geologists. The geochemical dataset consists of major elemental oxides, trace and rare earth element abundances where available. Analyses are included in the dataset on a 'Best Assay' basis (per sample) and to common units. No repeat analyses are included in the dataset unless analysed with a different SampleID.Only open file data available. Exploration data is extracted from legacy hardcopy reports by scanning and digitizing, including spatial data capture from maps where necessary. Legacy data capture from company reports is ongoing within NTGS and is based on geological terrains. More recent exploration reports and data have been supplied in digital formats and are uploaded directly into a SQL Server database after transcription to a standard loading template. NTGS collected rock samples are primarily whole rock geochemical analyses. NTGS undertake QA/QC on NTGS collected samples involving assessing precision and accuracy of techniques through internationally recognised standard reference materials and NTGS in-house standards, including the identification of duplicates and blanks. All data is transferred into a SQL Server database. Data is validated twice: at the template stage (before entry); and on loading into the database. Data is extracted, transformed and loaded into STRIKE as well as file-based outputs including MapInfo tab and ESRI shapefile formats, available from the NT-Wide Downloads page.
