Data Quality

Lineage:This data was compiled using the existing Aquifers spatial dataset - metadata:
https://www.ntlis.nt.gov.au/metadata/export_data?metadata_id=535D1EECEB0F528AE040CD9B21446C20&type=html

The broader Aquifer spatial dataset was clipped to the Katherine Mapping the Future study area. Boundaries within the Jinduckin Formation have been merged into one polygon. Fractured rock aquifers in the north-eastern portion of the study area have been merged into a single polygon and renamed "Fractured Basement Aquifers", corresponding to the geological unit known as the Antrim Plateau Volcanics.
Linework on some of the aquifer boundaries has been refined to the 1:250k scale using the Katherine geological map sheet: geoscience.nt.gov.au/gemis/ntgsjspui/handle/1/81674.

Positional Accuracy:Polygons/ boundaries delineated using Northern Territory Groundwater - Aquifers 1:2,000,000

Attribute Accuracy:Attribute values, as described in the Data Dictionary below, have been added to each polygon.

Logical Consistency:GIS editing tools were used to rectify all overshoots and undershoots in line work. Polygon topology rules applied are - must not overlap, must not have gaps and each polygon has only one label.

Completeness:Complete

AttributeAttribute DescriptionPossible CodeCode Description
ACTTDS_DESThe ACTTDS_DESC field is the actual range of groundwater TDS as specified on the map
ACTYLD_RAThe ACTYLD_RA field is the actual range of bore yields in Litres/seconds, as specified on the map
AQUIFERThe AQUIFER field describes the types of pore spaces which constitute the aquifer
AQ_SCALEThe AQ_SCALE field indicates the lateral extend of groundwater flow systems
GEO_FORM_1The GEO_FORM_1 field identifies the geological formation (or other geological subdivision such as group or member) derived from the latest geological map
GEO_LABELThe GEO_LABEL field is the geological label derived from the latest geology map
GEO_REGIONThe GEO_REGION refers to the geological region associated with the polygon
HGUHGU refers to the Hydrogeologic Unit. This is defined in the National Aquifer Framework (v1) as one or more National Aquifer Framework (NAF) geological units which have similar hydrogeological characteristics and behaviour. Each HGU is given a unique identification number. More information can be found here: www.bom.gov.au/water/groundwater/naf/documents/NAF_user_guide.pdf
NOTESExtra notes about water development options not included in the other fields
PART_COUNTPART_COUNT refers to the number of polygons associated with this field
ROCK_TYP_1The ROCK_TYP_1 field identifies the dominant rock types that comprise the aquifer
STDTDS_MAXThe STDTDS_MAX field is the maximum expected Total Dissolved Solids (TDS) of the groundwater
STDTDS_MINThe STDTDS_MIN field is the minimum expected Total Dissolved Solids (TDS) of the groundwater
STDYLD_MAXThe STDYLD_MAX field is the maximum in Litres/seconds (L/s) of the range of yield in which the majority of the bores fall
STDYLD_MINThe STDYLD_MIN field is the minimum in Litres/seconds (L/s) of the range of yield in which the majority of the bores fall
