Data Quality

Lineage:This dataset was started in 1981 with the opening of the NT Museum and includes insects that have been collected by various researchers over the years. Only a small percentage of specimen data has been computerised to date (including all type specimens, butterflies and dragonflies).

Positional Accuracy:Could be either from GPS or taken from tographical maps. Positional accuracy of records created post 2002 are mostly noted and method and accuracy of position fix recorded.

Attribute Accuracy:Identifications of specimens have been performed mostly by specialists, where possible the relative degree of taxonomic accuracy has been noted in the dataset. Species names in the dataset are not necessarily aligned with the current taxonomy of the fauna group as there is a lag between published revisions of fauna and updating the dataset.

Logical Consistency:Good.

Completeness:New records added regularly, older records may be incomplete in some data fields.
