The survey area covers approximately 32,000 hectares of mangrove and salt flats. The purpose of the project was to update the original mapping undertaken in 1996 at a finer scale of 1:8,000 and extends from Bynoe Harbour to Adelaide River. This project was funded by the INPEX-led Ichthys LNG Project as part of the Darwin Harbour Integrated Marine Monitoring and Research Program (IMMRP). This mapping now forms the base line for on-going mangrove monitoring in the IMMRP region. The mapping updates the original 1996 dataset "Mangrove Communities of Darwin Harbour".
