A desktop assessment describes an estimated level of use for each groundwater resource zone. This supports investigations for a better understanding of the use of groundwater, in particular, the groundwater resource zones that do not have a current management plan. The data is intended to clarify the department's position in relation to water availability in 112 groundwater resource zones in the Darwin Rural Water Control District and Palmerston Municipal area. It does not include consideration of surface water resources in these areas. The Estimated Use calculations are updated on a weekly basis. Users should refer to the Estimated Use date. The calculations used to create the Estimated Use categories are displayed for Northern Territory Government use only. The methodology used to generate the calculation is described in Appendix 1. The data compilation process is described in the report, Woltmann 2017, Chapter 7, Assessment methodology. The estimated use was not displayed in the original dataset. 1 December 2020. Darwin Rural Water Control District and Palmerston: The number of groundwater resource zones were reduced to 112 to consolidate smaller zones within the same groundwater system. The grouping into 11 groundwater systems remain. The process to establish the estimated level of use for each zone was reassessed. The methodology is described in the report, Miles 2020, Appendix A.
