The regions are also referred to as NT Water Resource Climate Zones. The delineation uses the boundary between surface water catchments draining northwards into the Timor Sea or the Gulf of Carpentaria (Top End) and those flowing inland (Arid Zone). These regions provide guidance on whether a water resource will have the characteristics of a Top End or Arid Zone resource for water allocations, planning, management and regulation.
