The biodiversity study area covers approximately 647,000 ha and is located south of the Tennant Creek Township within the Western Davenport Water Control District.

The data and report provides knowledge of biodiversity values within the study area to;
1. Identify and map the distribution of Groundwater Dependent Ecosystems (GDEs);
2. Characterise the ecological attributes and assess the biological value of GDEs; and
3. Improve knowledge on ecological values and species protected under the EPBC or TPWC Acts.

Risk to Biodiversity classes were derived and mapped across the study area from the biodiversity values data compiled during the study.

This information is part of the Mapping the Future Project of the Western Davenport Area. This project has identified land capability, water availability and biodiversity values to support land planning and inform development potential. Biodiversity values data are compiled into five possible Risk to Biodiversity classes (refer to Data Dictionary in this record).
Three of the classes were identified as appropriate and mapped in this study:
- Class 2. No significant value
- Class 4. Sensitive and/or significant biodiversity
- Class 5. High biodiversity value

- Biodiversity Assessment: contains all attributes as described in the Data Dictionary.
- Biodiversity Risk: contains a reduced set of attributes with components of GDE and SIG_VEG dissolved. This dataset was used to compile the development potential summary datasets for the Mapping the Future project.

The biodiversity values in this Biodiversity Risk spatial dataset were compiled by the Flora and Fauna Division of this department.
- Modelling was developed to map GDEs in the study area and indicated, with high confidence, a band of GDEs running southeast to northwest, where the depth-to-groundwater (DGW) is less than 10 m.
- Floristic surveys were undertaken between March 2019 and August 2019.
- Fauna surveys were undertaken between March and October 2019.
