Objects were created using the multiresolution segmentation algorithm with a scale parameter of 100 and using an equal weighting of eight image layers: five Sentinel-2 2020 annual composite bands (Blue, Green, Red, Near Infrared, Short Wave Infrared 2) and three vegetation indices (NDVI, NDWI, MSAVI). To classify the objects as vegetation communities, field data points assigned with a vegetation community attribute were used to train a random forest model that was then applied across the study area. All image layers were included as parameters for the random forest model, using the mean and standard deviation calculated for each object for each layer. The classified objects were then exported as polygons in shapefile format for further assessment and post-processing.
