Description

Abstract:

Inferred water level elevations (metres Australian Height Datum) with a 10m contour interval for the CLA system within the Beetaloo Sub-basin Water Studies region. Contours are an interpolated projection using DTW (depth to water) values taken from the NTG water database within the May to December period (i.e. not monsoonal months) from the last 5 years (2018-2022) and referenced to ground level elevations.

Data Quality

Lineage:This dataset was produced from the collation of Standing Water Level (SWL) values (metres below ground level) for bores drilled within the Cambrian Limestone Aquifer (CLA) system within the Beetaloo Sub-basin extended SREBA Water Studies region (bore completion reports available via NR Maps and select SWL data via the NT Water Portal). SWL datapoints have been referenced to a combination of elevation survey methods, including differential GPS, field GPS, 1-sec SRTM digital elevation model and Google Earth and projected using the geographic coordinate system Geocentric Datum of Australia 1994 using ArcMap 10.6.1 software. A topographic point to raster interpolation geoprocessing tool has been used to project groundwater elevation contours within the region, from which potentiometric contours have been inferred with minor corrections made where known groundwater divides influence flows.

Positional Accuracy:Positional accuracy restricted to known vertical and horizontal error margins of 1-second SRTM digital elevation model and corresponding positional accuracy margins of elevation survey methods utilised. Potentiometric contours are a projected interpolation from a select number of referenced locations across a large spatial area. As such, the groundwater elevation at any individual point location within the study region may be different to that projected by the potentiometric contours, as groundwater levels are inherently subject to the influence of localised flow gradient variations due to geological features, seasonal level variations (natural recharge/discharge) and pumping (extraction).

Attribute Accuracy:The attribute information conforms to a standard SREBA Groundwater template. The template ensures consistent information is recorded and displayed on any platform.

Logical Consistency:Data of similar type have the same attribute structure.

Completeness:Complete
