Description

Abstract:

This spatial dataset, surveyed at a scale of 1:2,000,000, provides polygon information on the Groundwater specifically (aquifer types and yields) of the Northern Territory. The purpose of this survey was to map, describe and evaluate the water resources information for planning and management within the SREBA Beetaloo study area.

Data Quality

Lineage:The aquifer units derived from NTGS 1:250,000 scale digital geology and from scanned 1:250,000 scale geology maps. Rock types with similar aquifer properties were grouped. The boundaries were then modified using water bore information. In certain areas aquifer boundaries were taken from existing groundwater maps.

Positional Accuracy:Variable across the map depending on the accuracy of the original geological data and the borehole density.

Attribute Accuracy:The accuracy of the attribute information is considered medium. The bore yield information and "aquifer types" are based on "expert knowledge.

Logical Consistency:GIS editing tools were used to rectify all overshoots and undershoots in line work. Polygon topology rules applied are must not overlap, must not have gaps and each polygon has only one label.

Completeness:This spatial dataset is regularly reviewed and updated.
