Description

Abstract:

This spatial dataset contains infrastructure details on pastoral properties within the Northern Territory Pastoral Estate; this includes those properties where the Tenure Type description is Pastoral Lease or Perpetual Pastoral Lease. The infrastructure types includes vehicle tracks, fence lines, paddocks, watering points, pipelines and buildings. Northern Territory compilation datasets are maintained using geometry types as points, lines and polygons.

The data is referred to as Northern Territory Pastoral Property Infrastructure and is collected and collated by the Northern Territory Government Rangelands Monitoring Branch (RMB) and managed by the Director of Land Development Coordination.

Important: Data may not be current and should not be relied upon.

Data Quality

Lineage:- Prior to 8/07/2021, the spatial data was collected by Rangelands Monitoring Branch (RMB) and sent to Department of Infrastructure, Planning and Logistics (DIPL). The data was managed using Microstation DGN file formats. DIPL also created several map products (PDF) at a range of data scales.
- On 8/07/2021 DIPL supplied data to RMB in ESRI shapefile formats
- As part of the RMB data compilation process, the features were clipped to the Northern Territory Pastoral Estate and compiled into 3 datasets using geometry types: points, lines and polygons. Paddocks (polygons) were cleaned to remove any overlaps. Spatial data is stored in Oracle ESRI SDE servers (File geodatabase formats). As data is updated, all archived features will also be stored in the servers.
- Oracle views display only the latest property information (based on the field DATE_CURR partitioned by each property name. The views are available to NTG users.

Positional Accuracy:Important: The data may not be current and should not be relied upon. The position of the features may not be accurate.

The features in this dataset have been collated over many years using various methods including on-ground recording devices and hand drawn via map screens using a range of drawing software tools. Originally, the data was collected as suitable for use with 1:250,000 topographic maps. Over time the features have been drawn using recent imagery backgrounds and smaller scales.
- Fence lines may not be coincident with pastoral property boundaries. Cadastral property boundaries in remote areas are described as +/- 1000 m in the Digital Cadastral Database. Refer to metadata record - www.ntlis.nt.gov.au/metadata/export_data?type=html&metadata_id=2DBCB7711FB906B6E040CD9B0F274EFE
- Since 2019, GPS points have collected via mobile devices with an accuracy threshold set to +/-5m.
- Prior to 2019, GPS points were collected with a hand held GPS (Garmin) device +/-15m, and a mobile device with unknown accuracy.
- Tracks are recorded inside a vehicle and an in-built offset is applied.

Attribute Accuracy:Important: Data may not be current and should not be relied upon. Refer to the Data Dictionary in this metadata record.

Where DATE_CURR = 8/07/2021 denotes that this is the first version of the compilation dataset. There may be errors in this data version.
This data has a confidence rating of 4 - Trusted external source with no desktop verification.

Logical Consistency:Polygons are single part. Topology rules have been applied to FEATURE = Paddock to not have any overlaps. These polygons will have coincident intersecting edges. All other features have been merged.

Completeness:Data may not be current and should not be relied upon.
The datasets are continually updated. Refer to field: DATE_INSP. (the property inspection date).

Data Dictionary

AttributeAttribute DescriptionPossible CodeCode Description
01. OBJECTIDA unique identifier created for every feature in the spatial dataset.
02. FEATGROUPAlias: Feature Group
Infrastructure features are grouped as follows;

- Points: Aviation, Building, Cultural, Hydro, Transport, Water
- Lines: Cultural, Transport, Water
- Polygons: Aviation, Cultural
03. FEATUREThe type of infrastructure feature includes the following;

- Points: Aerial or Tower, Bore, Dam, Gate, General building, General cultural feature, Homestead, Landing ground, Pump out point, Spring, Stock yard, Trough, Turkey nest, Underground mine, Water tank, Waterhole
- Lines: Cleared line, Fenceline, Vehicle track, Water pipeline
- Polygons: General cultural feature, Landing strip, Quarry
04. LABELSeveral features have text labels to use for mapping display.

NOTE: To display paddock details refer to the polygon dataset where Feature = "Paddock".
Field: LABEL + Field: AREA_KM2. For example: BUNTINE PDK 95.6km2
05. DATE_INSPAlias: Date Inspected
The date that the Rangelands Monitoring Branch staff inspected the pastoral property. The date does not indicate that the individual feature was inspected.
06. DATE_CURRAlias: Date Current
This date is applied by the Rangelands Monitoring Branch when the information is processed and the data is updated in department servers. Regardless of whether a feature was edited, all features for a property will have the same currency date.
DATE_CURR = 8/07/2021 is the first version of the compilation dataset.
All archived features, with the previous currency date, will be stored in department servers.
07. DISTRICTAlias: Pastoral District
Each property is within a designated Northern Territory Pastoral Property District.
District names: Barkly, Darwin, Gulf, Katherine, Northern Alice Springs, Plenty, Roper, Southern Alice Springs, Sturt Plateau, Tennant Creek, V.R.D.
08. PROPERTYAlias: Pastoral Property
All features are assigned with the pastoral property name. This name matches the Northern Territory Cadastre.
For example: AILERON
09. PROP_TAGAlias: Property Tag
A 3 letter identifier used by the department for data management purposes.
For example: ALN
10. SOURCEAlias: Data Source
The information is compiled by the Rangelands Monitoring Branch, Department of Environment, Parks and Water Security.
11. CONFIDENCEAlias: Confidence rating
Where DATE_CURR = 8/07/2021 denotes that this is the first version of the compilation dataset. There may be errors in the data. This data has a confidence rating of 4.
1NTG Rangelands Monitoring Branch - point derived using GPS with desktop verification.
2NTG Rangelands Monitoring Branch - desktop assessment only.
3Trusted external source with NTG Rangelands Monitoring Branch desktop verification.
4Trusted external source with no desktop verification.
12. LENGTH_MAlias: Length (M)
All line features will contain a linear measure in metres.
13. AREA_KM2All polygon features will contain an area measure in km2 calculated using Albers projection
14. MAPDISPLAYYes / No.
The value is used by NTG Rangelands Monitoring Branch to indicate whether the feature will be displayed on the map product. In some areas where features are tightly grouped, it may be too difficult to display all the features at the desired map scale.
