Description

Abstract:

Digital road centrelines for the Northern Territory. The dataset represents all surveyed roads and is attributed with:
Road names
Address ranges (in the major population centres only)
Road type codes
Direction of travel codes
House numbering system codes
Quality indicators
Unique feature identifiers

Access Constraint:The data is generally available for distribution within the Northern Territory. Charges may apply for both hard and digital copy. For digital information, a digital data agreement may be required. Please refer to the contact within this metadata.

Data Quality

Lineage:The dataset is derived from a number of existing NT Government datasets. These are (in order of their contribution to the dataset):
Current NT Digital Cadastral Database (DCDB)
Digital Road Centrelines and Pastoral Road Centrelines (1:100000 - 1:250000 mapping)
GPS data
Transport and Works RIMS database (for road type)
Centrelines have been manually digitised and are structured topologically and attributed to conform to the Queensland Spatial Information Infrastructure Strategy (QSIIS) Digital Road Network Standards.

Positional Accuracy:Positional accuracy will vary depending on the source of the data. This will range from an estimated +/- 5 metres for centrelines derived from GPS data to greater than +/- 250 metres for the centrelines derived from 1:250000 mapping.A quality pointer field exists within the dataset indicating the source of the lineage and estimated spatial accuracy.

Attribute Accuracy:Road names and address ranges are derived primarily from the DCDB. Some road names in the rural/remote areas are derived from 1:100000 - 1:250000 mapping. Road type codes are derived from the RIMS Report - AustRoad Classifications; interpolation from line styles used in the 1:100000 - 1:250000 mapping; and user intervention where there is no logical consistency in classification.One-way indicators are derived from local knowledge and ground truthing (Darwin area only).

Logical Consistency:Each record is a polyline map object extending between two intersections, or from an intersection to road end, or from an intersection to a change in road type. The endpoints of adjoining polylines are 'snapped' together.

Completeness:Dataset is currently being assessed by NT Government for completeness.
