Description

Abstract:

Comprehensive database of all known vertebrate fauna records, including mammals, birds, reptiles, frogs and fish, as well threatened invertebrates, for the Northern Territory.

The records may be viewed in our web mapping application, NR Maps. https://nrmaps.nt.gov.au/nrmaps.html
See folder Biodiversity > Fauna Atlas
The records are displayed as 4 data layers, described as follows;

Threatened Fauna: Any species classified as either critically endangered, endangered or vulnerable under the EPBC Act or TPWC Act
Significant Fauna: Any species classified as either Critically Endangered, Endangered, Vulnerable, Near Threatened, Data Deficient under either the EPBC Act or TPWC Act.
Native Fauna: Species that occur or have occurred naturally in the Northern Territory region, ecosystem or habitat without human introduction
Introduced Fauna: Species that are not native and have been accidentally or deliberately transported to the Northern Territory by human activity

A checklist of NT Fauna taxa is also available to the public. See Supplementary Information in this metadata record.

Data Quality

Lineage:Information has been collected from formal field surveys, incidental observations and reference material.

Positional Accuracy:Accuracy is variable. In general, accuracy depends on the source and age of the data. New data is typically, but not always, accurate to 10m. Some older records are rounded to the nearest degree. The accuracy of the record is sometimes indicated in the 'Accuracy' field for each data point. The accuracy of all data needs to be treated with caution.

Attribute Accuracy:

Logical Consistency:Each point is a single record.

Completeness:The Fauna Atlas is updated with new records approximatly every six months.
