Data Quality

Lineage:The aquifer units derived from NTGS 1:250,000 scale digital geology and from scanned 1:250,000 scale geology maps. Rock types with similar aquifer properties were grouped. The boundaries were then modified using water bore information. In certain areas aquifer boundaries were taken from existing groundwater maps.

The map unit boundaries polygon collected via geographic Information system (ArcGIS). Core water resources attributes attached to map units boundary with additional attributes unique to individual surveys. The ESRI Geodatabase, MapInfo Table and Google Earth KML derived using FME Workbench. The published map is derived from the ESRI Shape using Microstation Bentley MicroStation Design (V8) software.

The core attributes information associated with the groundwater, surface water and water development dataset was derived from the original map's legend and annotations. File name NT-Groundwater-Maps_2000k_L94.dgn

Positional Accuracy:Variable across the map depending on the accuracy of the original geological data and the borehole density.

Attribute Accuracy:The accuracy of the attribute information is considered medium. The bore yield information and "aquifer types" are based on "expert knowledge.

This note is relevant to the following attributes in the dataset;
'Blank or Zero in GEO_FORM, GEO_LABEL, STDTDS_MIN, STDTDS_MAX and ACTTDS_DES indicate values not defined.'

Logical Consistency:GIS editing tools were used to rectify all overshoots and undershoots in line work. Polygon topology rules applied are must not overlap, must not have gaps and each polygon has only one label.

Completeness:This spatial dataset is regularly reviewed and updated.
