Description
This polygon spatial dataset provides new information on mangrove communities in Darwin Harbour, Shoal Bay and Charles Point. The survey area covers approximately 32,000 hectares of mangrove and salt flats.
The purpose of the project was to update the original mapping undertaken in 1996 at a finer scale of 1:8,000 and extends from Bynoe Harbour to Adelaide River. This project was funded by the INPEX-led Ichthys LNG Project as part of the Darwin Harbour Integrated Marine Monitoring and Research Program (IMMRP). This mapping now forms the base line for on-going mangrove monitoring in the IMMRP region.
The mapping updates the original 1996 dataset "Mangrove Communities of Darwin Harbour". Refer to metadata: www.ntlis.nt.gov.au/metadata/export_data?type=html&metadata_id=2DBCB7711FCE06B6E040CD9B0F274EFE
The department uses the survey code IMMRP_8 for data storage purposes. The spatial polygons are stored in an ESRI file geodatabase using geographics in datum GDA94.

Data Quality
Lineage:Map unit boundaries derived from digital high resolution aerial photo imagery (circa 2015, 2016). DEM, geological and topographic data. Field data (site information) described and classified according to national standards at the time of capture.
Map unit polygons collected via geographic information system (ArcGIS). Label and broad description attributes attached to map units.

Version 2: 29/04/2020 Several additional polygons depicting salt-flats on the periphery of existing ones.
Positional Accuracy:POLYGON DATA
Approximately +/- 10 metres. Map unit boundaries digitised on screen directly from digital rectified aerial photographs. Level of accuracy of the initial ortho-rectified photos +/- 1 metre.
Attribute Accuracy:Spatial data polygons are attributed with label and broad description. Detailed attribute information is contained in the report.
Logical Consistency:GIS editing tools were used to rectify all overshoots and undershoots in line work. Polygon topology rules applied are; must not overlap, must not have gaps and each polygon has only one label.
