Description

Abstract:

This raster dataset describes the bathymetry for waters surrounding the Gunn Point peninsula. To assist with identifying spatial distribution of flora and fauna living on the seafloor (epibenthos) depth data layers from several point data datasets were collated, interpolated and resampled to a 10m cell size. The depth reference of the raster is mean sea level (MSL, about +4.2m LAT or 0m AHD).

These data should not be used for Navigation purposes.
The methodology used to derive bathymetric map does not comply with IHO standards and therefore cannot be used for navigational purposes.

The accompanying report Marine and Coastal Biodiversity Assessment of the Gunn Point Area (2020) forms part of the Mapping the Future Project - Gunn Point.
This project has identified land capability, water availability and biodiversity values to support land planning and inform development potential over the Gunn Point area. Reports and maps can be viewed from the webpage: denr.nt.gov.au/land-resource-management/development-opportunities

Data Quality

Lineage:These data should not be used for Navigation purposes.
The methodology used to derive bathymetric map does not comply with IHO standards and therefore cannot be used for navigational purposes.

This raster dataset is the result from collation of multiple depth data sets and re-interpolation of collated data points into a 10m grid cell size:

1. Collation of depth data from the RAN charts Aus00020, Aus00720 and Aus00309, followed by shifting the datum from LAT to MSL, by adding 4.2m to the depth data points.

2. These depth data were supplemented with data points from the Australian bathymetry and topography (250m grid cell size, Whiteway 2009) and National Intertidal Digital Elevation model (25m grid cell-size, Bishop-Taylor, Sagar, Lymburner Leo, et al. 2019)

3. Depth data from (1) and (2) were interpolated and merged with the Darwin-Bynoe habitat mapping bathymetric grid (Siwabessy et al 2019) at a grid cell size 10m and transposed from WGS84/UTM52 to GDA94/Geodetic (decimal degrees).

The depth reference of the raster is mean sea level (MSL, about +4.2m LAT or 0m AHD).

Positional Accuracy:These data should not be used for Navigation purposes.
The methodology used to derive bathymetric map does not comply with IHO standards and therefore cannot be used for navigational purposes.

This raster data set has one band, with values (float) representing depth in meters. The datum is Mean Sea Level which for Darwin is about +4.2m LAT or 0m AHD. The spatial reference is geodetic, GDA94.
