Abstract:

This polygon spatial dataset represents average tonnes per hectare of carbon emissions from land clearing in the Northern Territory.
The original data was provided to the Department of Environment, Parks and Water Security (DEPWS) by the CSIRO. This data was modified by DEPWS to provide 11 classes of average carbon emissions from land clearing in the Northern Territory.
This department is recognised by CSIRO as the custodians and manager of this digital data.

Data Quality

Lineage:CSIRO provided a GeoTIFF to this department to describe: Estimated per-hectare carbon emissions from land clearing, as generated from the Full Carbon Accounting Model (FullCAM). Average expected outcome was calculated over a 40-year period (1977-2017) to include variability associated with historical fire. Predicted emissions in response to land clearing events were calculated as the sum of the four carbon pools assumed to return to the atmosphere as a result of clearing: aboveground biomass, belowground biomass, aboveground debris, and aboveground standing dead. The final GeoTIFF depicts total biomass, presented in units of tonnes of carbon dioxide-equivalent per hectare (tCO2-e ha-1).

Version 1 - 28 March, 2022.
The image was clipped to the Northern Territory boundary and reclassified into 11 classes based on average per-hectare tonnes of carbon emissions. The resultant value, MXAVG_TCO2, reflected the maximum average tonnes/ha. Each polygon contains a MXAVG_TCO2 value.

Positional Accuracy:The original GeoTIFF grid has a spatial resolution of 250 m x 250 m.
