| History/Origin | Elsey Creek was named by Augustus C Gregory on 14 July 1856 after his surgeon/naturalist, Doctor John Ravenscroft Elsey. The Creek was discovered by Gregory on his 1855-56 exploration of the north or Australia and he named it after Doctor Elsey. Elsey Station ("We of the Never Never" fame), Elsey Park and Elsey Road road have all taken their names from the Creek. Dr Elsey died at St Kitts, in the Carribean, in 1857. |
