History/Origin Prior to the construction of the Darwin Primary School in 1952 the site was known by Darwin residents as Frog Hollow. A curious name which referred both to it's (sic) topography and it's inhabitants.

The 'Northern Standard' of December 19, 1933 whilst reporting on thefts mentions "thefts of rations, ectetera, from residences on railway employees on Railway Hill and near Frog Hollow ...".

Frog Hollow prior to 1952 was a natural drainage line which became a wet season creek.

With the closure of the Primary School and the conversion of the buildings into an Arts Centre, the playground area became a park.

Lot 5665 was declared a Heritage Place on 15 March 1996 - (NTG S7 of 19/3/96). See http://www.nt.gov.au/nreta/heritage/ntregister/declared/display.html?frog
