| History/Origin | Mcarthur River was named by Leichhardt in 1845 after members of the McArthur family of Camden, NSW. Ludwig Leichhardt in his Journal wrote: "Sept. 21 (1845) - ...I called this river the "Macarthur," in acknowledgement of the liberal support my expedition received from Messrs. James and William Macarthur of Camden..." |
