History/Origin Named by John Davis, Government Store Keeper, Escaped Cliffs on 14 September 1866 after E T Wildman, Secretary to the (SA) Crown Lands Commision.

Davis in his report to the Officer in Command of Northern Territory Expedition, Escape Cliffs, Northern Territory (J T Manton) (SAPP 16 of 1867) wrote:
I have the honor to report to you the discovery of a new river about twelve to fifteen miles to the southeast of Point Stuart, which I have called "Wildman's" River, after the indefatigable Secretary to the Crown Lands Commissioner, and also a particular friend of mine.

No further information is available on Wildman.
