History/Origin This suburb possibly derives its name from the fact that there was an Army camp in the area which might have been a vehicle park and also its proximity to the Stuart Highway - hence Stuart Park. The name certainly dates from at least 1950 as the Stuart Park Progress Association was formed then.

The area was formerly known as Parap Camp.

In 1954, following Queen Elizabeth's visit to Darwin, the Stuart Park Progress Association suggested roads in the suburb be named after royalty - (ie Queen St, Anne St, Charles St, Duke St, Mary St, etc).
