| History/Origin | The Hundred of Selwyn was the only Hundred gazetted in the mining area north of Pine Creek in the County of Rosebery in March, 1885. It was named after the eminent Somerset geologist Alfred Richard Cecil Selwyn, who was appointed Director of the Geological Survey in Victoria in 1851. He took up a similar Canadian appointment in 1869. The County of Rosebery and the Hundred of Selwyn lapsed with the passage in 1976 and subsequent assent of the Crown Lands Ordinace 1976 (No 1 of 1977) and the Crown Lands (Validation of Proclamations) Ordinance 1976 (No.2 of 1977). |
