| History/Origin | Formerly known as Beswick, in 2024 the community name was changed to its Jawoyn language name - Wugularr - at the request of the Bagala Traditional Owners. The name Wugularr doesn't have an English translation; it is the place name that refers to the Country where the community sits today. The previous name Beswick had been adopted from the former pastoral lease known as Beswick Station. The station name derived from the nearby stream Beswick Creek, which was named in the 1870s, believed to be after a South Australian pastoralist named James Beswick. |
