| History/Origin | Named in commemoration of Wallace (Wallie) Herbert Christie (1923-2007), a Katherine farmer and community contributor. Christie first visited the Northern Territory in 1945 before returning in 1949 to establish a farming enterprise near Katherine, where he grew vegetables and peanuts. Over many decades he played an active role in community and civic organisations, including local government, the Farmers Cooperative, Katherine Show Society, Historical Society, Bushfires Council, Red Cross and Masonic Lodge. Known for his generosity and commitment to the Katherine community, Christie was recognised through the naming of "Wallie's Shed" at the Katherine Museum. |
