History/Origin Fairweather Crescent is named after Margaret (Marge) Ellen Fairweather. Best remembered as the long-time proprietor of the Daly River Hotel, she navigated the challenges of outback life with determination and practicality.

Marge took over the Daly River Hotel in 1962, running it through some of the Territory?s toughest conditions. Floodwaters regularly threatened the pub, with major floods in 1976 and 1977 destroying buildings and submerging vehicles. In response, Marge rebuilt with foresight, constructing the new pub on piers to protect it from future inundations.

Transport and mobility were a major part of her life, and she became well known for her preference for Peugeot vehicles. Over the years, she covered more than half a million kilometres on outback roads, often crossing floodwaters in her trusty 1968 Peugeot 404 and later, a 1975 Peugeot 504. She adapted her vehicles to suit the harsh conditions and even influenced design improvements, offering practical feedback to Peugeot engineers.

After leaving Daly River, Marge relocated to Darwin, where she devoted herself to community work. As a profoundly deaf woman, she worked to support others with hearing impairments.
