History/Origin	Allwright Court is named in honour of John (Jack) Allwright. Jack lived in Darwin before being evacuated to Brisbane during World War II. It was there that he met and married Leile Garrett in 1944. In 1946, the couple moved to Katherine, where they raised nine children. Jack worked for the Department of Lands Survey and also at the Katherine Experimental Farm, known at the time as the 15 Mile. An avid sportsman, he actively played both tennis and cricket. During the devastating 1957 flood, Jack famously drove an Austin truck through flooded streets to evacuate residents to higher ground. Jack Allwright passed away in the 1990s.
