History/Origin Named after Walter (Wally) Langdon who came to the Northern Territory in 1918 and, after joining the Northern Territory Police, had many bush postings including Borroloola, Daly Waters, Wave Hill and Timber Creek. When based at Timber Creek, he was involved in the search for Nemarluk, a high profile Aboriginal man wanted for murder, and others in the 1930's.

As a result of his extensive searching with other officers, the Minister said in 1934 that Wally's judgment and bravery, as well as devotion to duty were obvious. He was subsequently awarded the Kings Medal in conjunction with Their Majesties' Silver Jubilee on 6 May 1935.
