History/Origin Named after Stanley Adrian Brett who migrated to Australia from New Zealand in 1956 and moved to the Northern Territory in 1959. He worked as a carpenter in the construction of Beatrice Hills (Coastal Plains Research Station). Stanley also worked on the construction of the Tortilla Flats (Upper Adelaide River Research Station) and subsequently went on to manage it. Stanley was instrumental in the development and improvement of the Adelaide River Races and the formation of the Adelaide River Show Society (ARSS), of which he was made a life member. Stanley moved to Darwin in 1977 and worked for the Department of Lands, Survey and Mapping.

He became the Director of Lands Acquisition Branch and the Lands Allocation Branch during his time in the department. During his time in the Northern Territory, Stanley was a board member of the Racing and Gaming Commission Board, Liquor Commission Board and the Robbie Robbins Reserve Board. Stanley passed away on 5 November 1992 in Sydney at the age of 61.
