History/Origin Born in Lahore, British India (now Pakistan), Dr Stanley Jones Linco completed his Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) at the University of Punjab in 1962. His recruitment to the Northern Territory followed a 1970s health conference in Singapore, where his presentation on malaria management caught the attention of Dr Charles Gurd, then head of the NT Health Department. Dr Linco relocated to the Territory around 1972 to support the implementation of malaria control programs.

He initially served as a Medical Officer in Darwin and, in 1974, was appointed Regional Director of Health in Gove (Nhulunbuy). After four years in senior administration, he returned to Darwin in 1978. During his tenure with the Health Department, he was involved in inspecting the area that would later become Palmerston to assess its suitability as a future satellite city.

In October 1979, he established his practice in Virginia, the first private general practice serving the Darwin rural area, and in 1984 relocated his surgery to Berrimah, where many of his rural patients continued to seek his services.

Dr Linco and his wife, Lillian, were strong supporters of the scientific and medical research in the Northern Territory, regularly donating to community health initiatives through the Menzies School of Health Research.
After retiring in 2000, Dr Linco moved to Burleigh Heads, Queensland, and later settled in Croatia in 2008. He passed away on 5 September 2016.

In recognition of his significant contribution to rural healthcare, Litchfield Council nominated Dr Linco's name for the road providing access to Palmerston Regional Hospital, symbolically linking his legacy as a rural GP with contemporary health services.
