| History/Origin |
The Steamer "Airlie" called at Port Darwin for some years. In a Marine Report of 1896, it was reported that owing to the collapse of a portion of the inner part of the jetty the "SS Airlie" discharged her cargo of about 90 tons, into the E & A Company's hulk; from whence it was taken in lighters and landed on the Gulnare Jetty. In about 1906 the "Airlie" sailed from Port Darwin with a bow of gold value at 1000Pds from the Commercial Bank. |
