Named after C.M.F. Allen, Botanist, Curator and Superintendent of Agriculture, 1913-1936. Allen CEF, Curator of Gardens and Superintendent of Agriculture. Inspector of Plant Diseases. Commencing Salary 300 pounds. Date of appointment 7/10/1913. Mr Allen retired on the 21st February, 1936. He was then Inspector of Agriculture for N.T. During his time in office Mr. Hill of theTropical Institute of Townsville, discovered 'Citrus Cancer' in fruit trees growing at Darwin, Daly River etc. (1920) In 1924 Mr Allen visited Queensland and studied the cotton growing industry under the guidance of Mr. G. Evans, the Director of Cotton Culture of the Queensland Dept. of Agriculture and Stock. Mr W.A. Shipp of the Botanical Gardens staff was Acting Sup. in Mr. Allens absence. In Dec. 1925. Mr Allen was away from Darwin for 13 months. Mr M.C. Goode acted in Mr Allen's position during this time.
