History/Origin Named after Albert BORELLA who was an officer of the Lands Branch in the Northern Territory. During WWI he was the winner of the first and only Victoria Cross every won by a Territory serviceman in the 1914-18 War. Mr Borella enlisted in the AIF in May 1915 and went to Gallipoli in September. Armed with only a revolver he captured an enemy machine gun and strongly held trenches. He later led his platoon to Victory over an enemy counter attack. Mr Borella was 86 when he died.
