History/Origin Named after Gilbert (Bert) Coppock & his family of Gibeanie Stataion. In 1928 Bert and brother James (Jim) applied for and were granted the block of land between Aileron and Ti Tree Stations. Whilst Jim travelled to their new property by car, Bert and friend Cecil Lewis travelled by horse drawn waggon taking nearly one year to travel from NSW, arriving in April 1933. They named their new block Gibeanie after their parents. After a few years the brothers went to Hatches Creek to mine wolfram.

In May 1936 Bert married Elizabeth (Bess) Amey in Alice Springs. Early in 1939 the partnership between the brothers was dissolved and Jim continued mining whilst Bert and Bess moved back to Gibeanie. Bert and Bess in 1942 again went into mining at Arltunga and later at Harts Range. In 1959 they sold Gibeanie and the stock and machinery were moved to their sons property Newhaven where Bert died on 1 November 1959.
