| History/Origin | Named after George Woodroffe Goyder, Surveyor-General of South Australia. Born in Liverpool, England, in 1826, Goyder emigrated to Australia in 1848. In 1868-1869, he was appointed by the South Australian government to survey land in the Northern Territory, during which he selected Port Darwin as the site for the township of Palmerston, now known as Darwin. |
